Pet Reincarnation, Soul Families and Soul Contracts

Pet reincarnation is a hot topic these days. But how does it actually work for your pet to come back to you? Do you have to put in a specific request? What if your pet is already back in a new animal body with a different family? Can pets cross species and reincarnate as a different species in their new life than the species they were when they were with you before? Animal communicator Shannon Cutts answers reader questions.
Recently I shared the story of Chief and Gracey and their person, Betty. Chief, a gloriously regal midnight black German Shepherd, had recently passed out of his body. Betty, his human mom, really really wanted him back but realized adopting a young puppy was out of the question. So Betty reached out to me for help. And I reached out to Chief for guidance for us both.
Not surprisingly, this sweet interspecies family's heartwarming story sparked quite a number of questions from readers eager to learn just how flexible pet reincarnation could truly be.
Reader Question: After my soul dog passed, I moved to a small apartment complex that doesn't allow dogs. But cats are permitted. Even though I haven't had a cat since I was a kid, I love them. Could my dog reincarnate as a cat so we can be together again?
Shannon's Answer: In my experience working with my pet clients who have reincarnated or are willing to reincarnate back to their people again, I have found that species doesn't matter all that much. In fact, our family's current dog has shared two of his past lives with me - in one of them he was a human and in the other he was a cat. Pets can cross species boundaries as needed to achieve important goals like being reunited with a beloved human. Animal communication is a great way to start that conversation with your soul dog.
Reader Question: I miss my tortoise so much and I wish every day there was a way he could come back to me. However, I am at a stage in my life when I could not in good conscience adopt a baby tortoise who would most certainly outlive me. Plus I am a firm believer in adopt don't shop. So I guess there is no way this could happen - but I wanted to just check?
Shannon's Answer: This is one of the hands-down most common questions I get about pet reincarnation. Here, my motto has come to be "where there is a will there is a way." Each soul - regardless of species - has full agency to negotiate the details of their new incarnation. As with Chief and Gracey, if this means negotiating with an already embodied soul about changing bodies, so be it. As long as both beings are willing, it can happen. So I would say ask your tortoise in spirit to help you reunite in a way that ensures he will not wind up in harm's way should you pass before him. And we can certainly talk more about that in an animal communication session.
Reader Question: I really want my bird to come back to me in a new body but she's been gone awhile and I never thought to ask her to return to me before now. Did I miss my chance?
Shannon's Answer: To answer this question I'd like to share just a bit about soul families and soul contracts. Just as two human beings can belong to a soul family - a family of souls that incarnates repeatedly over lifetimes to love and serve each other - and share soul contracts - agreements to play different roles for every member's growth and evolution - so too can our pets belong to our soul family and share soul contracts with each other and with us. So if you and your bird want to be together again and it is in each of your highest and best interests to do so, it is definitely possible for this to occur.
